I really am sorry to miss after everyone sacrified to join Andy Paquett and I in Corrales last month.  I tried to change patinets but with Thanksgiving and Christmas and New Years taking days out of the weeks, our other days are slammed.  Hope to make it in January 13,  I guess will be the date if second Monday.

Thanks to Gloria and Steve (and others in the past) for using RSVP in the less traditional way.  It encourages me to know you will join us again!

Betty Myers (Schaefer)

I want to be there along with my sister, Susan.  It will depend on the roads if I can get out of my neighborhood without going into the ditch.  We barely made it home the Monday after Thanksgiving and is predicted to rain and snow the next 2 days.  Might be iffy.  Cross my fingers.

FYI - The Rail Runner "Seniors ride for free - Wednesdays" has been extended through 2020.

Seniors Ride Free Extended Through 2020
Rio Metro is extending our Seniors Ride Free program through 2020! Seniors age 62+ can continue to ride any New Mexico Rail Runner Express train at no cost every Wednesday through the entire year. This is a great opportunity for residents and visitors alike to explore New Mexico’s outstanding local restaurants, museums, and shops, as well as the great outdoors. Enjoy the ride!

A great opportunity to ride up to Santa Fe or down to Belen to eat and shop all year long.

Celebrate the season all month long in Belen! The Belen Harvey House Museum is home to a display of holiday lights and beautifully decorated trees every Friday to Sunday from 5-8 p.m. though December 22.

The Bugg Lights Museum located 5 blocks west at 513 Becker Ave. features trees, whimsical decorations and festive displays. The Bugg Lights Museum is open Wednesday through Sunday from Noon to 5 p.m., and is offering extended evening hours for the holiday season.

Then there is Pete's Cafe located one block behind the Harvey House Museum. Great Mexican food.

Hiking Santa Fe by Rail
Last month a group of 6 seniors took the Rail Runner from Albuquerque to Santa Fe for a hike along the Santa Fe River Trail. The hike, which was led by Cathy Intemann, a volunteer with the City of Albuquerque Senior Centers’ Hiking Group, departed from the Santa Fe Depot Station. “It’s really easy to get on the train, do the hike, then get back on the train and head home. It’s a nice way to spend the day outside and explore Santa Fe in a different way,” says Intemann.

By late this afternoon, I knew I was never going to make it to the highway much less to lunch tomorrow.  The roads were finally almost dried out from Thanksgiving but the ruts are still so deep in places they scrape the bottom of my car.   Tomorrow will be even worse. It is like driving in a big vat of jello but mud instead.

I will miss having a good lunch at Monroe's and the good company.  I wish all of our classmates a very blessed Christmas season and health and happiness in 2020.  See you next year.

A new lunch proposition: Last month several people reported they prefer lunch about 11am rather than 1:00. So, Walter Huebner and I have an idea that might please all lunchers!  We will still have HHS lunches on the 2nd Monday of every month, but now we will offer TWO TIMES...11 and 1.  The location will be the same for each. So when you RSVP, you must state which time you will arrive.  I will reserve for both sessions, but Walter will host the 11:00 group, and I will host the 1:00 as usual.  The beauty of the plan is that we are liable to cross paths as one group leaves and one arrives.  Now, you early birds, JANUARY 13 is the day to strut your stuff!  We "night"ingales will be on the lookout for your friendly faces!

Our December Birthday Lunch was so well attended!  If we had all of our frequent and regular attenders, we would have had 33!  A new record!  Our newest attendees were Lane (Lanny) Leckman and Renee Paquet, Andy's wife.  Cliff Blaugrund, Don Rood, Jack Dettweiler (sporting a few recent scars but looking good!), Judy Coyne and Ellen Coyne Harvey filled in the crowd as rather new, but hopefully more frequent, participants!  The food, conversation, and laughter was abundant and, happily, no one's car was towed from the overflow parking!!  (I am not going to list everyone as Robyn liked to do. The list is cumbersome, and the RSVP list gives that report. Please don't feel neglected. Ha!).  Neal brought up another bit of business; we all voted.  You should have been there......       (I'm not going to steal his thunder.  Keep your eyes peeled for his message.). Next Birthday Lunch date Jan. 13 at 11:00 or 1:00 at a place to be announced.

!Feliz y prospero ano nuevo a manana!  (A tip of the hat to Srs. Huerta y Montoya!)

Susie Strong Neuschwanger's birthday wish is for our January lunch to be at O'Niell's at 3301 Juan Tabo NE between Candelaria and Comanche.  We will have two lunch times--11:00 and 1:00 for the same restaurant.  Please state your chosen time when you RSVP!  I have reserved the enclosed heated patio for the 1:00 group because of the anticipated size.  The 11:00ers will be inside unless we get a sizable number. Then they, too, will be on the patio.  I do hope that's the case so we can greet each other coming and going!  If you can't come to this new time, but would like to, RSVP to that effect as a show of interest.  Let's not lose a moment of celebrating our notable birthday year and new and old class friendships!
