Ken Haynes passed away in 1985 after getting a systemic staph infection. I know he was married, had two children and was a very succesful business man. He started the "Bag and Save" markets in New Mexico (a precusor to warehouse clubs like Sams and Costco.) He was bought out by Furrs in the mid 80's and did very well. His death was very sudden and sad.
