Bob Morgan here,,, I remember Randy Salazar , Alan and myself taking Alan's Green 40 Ford to Franks on a regular basis, what a kind guy,, we sure had a ton of fun,, I also wanted to find out more about Alan, as Randy & I had mentioned him at the 30th,, here is what I was able to find out. Sorry to report,,, we all miss him,, RIP,,, Bob

VICTORIA – A graveside memorials services for Alan Read Stewart, 61, former Canyon police chief, will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday at Leakey Floral Cemetery in Leakey. Mr. Stewart died Feb. 9, 2007, at Methodist Hospital in San Antonio.

Mr. Stewart was born Feb. 8, 1946, in Sidney, Neb. to James C. Stewart and Ola Maude Stewart. He graduated from Highland High School I Albuquerque, N.M. He served in the U.S. Army from 1965-1968 as an intelligence analyst in Thailand. He married Karen A. Geistfeld on Oct. 28, 1967. Upon his departure from the Army, he moved to Canyon to attend West Texas State University. He became a police officer for the City of Canyon while attending WTSU. In 1970, he moved to Albuquerque, N.M. to attend the Albuquerque Police Academy. He then returned to Canyon as a lieutenant. Shortly after his return, he became acting police chief and was soon named Chief of Police of Canyon. He attended the FBI National Academy in Washington, D.C. and earned degrees from WTSU, Amarillo College, FBI Law Enforcement Executive Development School and the University of Texas Permian Basin. He served as chief of police in Plainview and Odessa.

Mr. Stewart is survived by his wife, Karen, of Victoria; sons, Ryan and Clint and wife, Sara, all of Dallas; a daughter, Jeanine Stewart of Houston; a half brother, Ken Rogers of Bandera and a half sister, Iris Wells of Loveland, Colo.

The family suggests memorials be to Frio Canyon EMS, P.O. Box 803, Leakey, TX 78873.

Alan R. Stewart - 9th Chief of Police, 1981 to 1991.
Chief Stewart was the First Chief of Police with a college degree. Chester Nolan, Assistant City Manager, was acting Chief of Police, for approximately six (6) months while the City looked for a new Police Chief.
