FYI:  because of the uptick in the omicron virus, I'm going to postpone our "2nd Monday of the Month Lunch".  Perhaps February will offer a tired virus and reprieve.  I believe Feb. 14 would be the date.  Wouldn't that be LOVEly?!  (All groans and eye rolls accepted.)

Betty Myers (Schaefer)

Good idea, Marty.  Rumors are that the Omicron will peak in the middle of January and then rapidly go away.  Who knows what it really will do but I am not planning on going anywhere unless it is a necessity for a while.  I am sure most others feel the same.

Happy New Year and stay healthy and safe.  Hope we can see each other in February.

LUNCHES RESUMED!!  Next Monday, Feb. 14 💕, at 1pm, we will celebrate birthdays and toast old friends at Green Jeans Food Hall on 3600 Cutler Ave NE, near I-40 and Carlisle.  I recommend you see full menus at www.greenjeansabq.com. They are quite appealing and will save ordering time.  Choices will be from American (BBQ, hamburgers), SW, Italian, Vietnamese menus plus ice cream, coffee, and juice bars. RSVP is not necessary with this venue, but it will help in reserving an appropriate space for us.
PS. When travelling north on Carlisle from Indian School, you will make a SHARP right turn just over the freeway bridge. The street is almost unnoticeable.  An easier way to access is to approach from Washington which is east of Carlisle.  Make a westward turn onto Cutler, winding back toward Carlisle. The parking lot will be in front of you as you approach the restaurant, past a large hotel on your right.

Wonderful article, Larry -- thanks for sharing, especially for us out of towners!

George, what a wonderful life and career -- congratulations!  I've always known that skiing was a big part of your life but now have a much better appreciation of just how big.  Even though our friendship now exceeds 60 years, I never knew you had asthma and that it brought your family to NM.  Health issues were a major reason for many of us coming to NM, including my family.

Best to you and Tooey!

A great story on George Boyden but one that would not be unexpected from him.  George is a great example of the culture of excellence that seemed to infuse this (and other) classes at Highland.  If my experience is any indication, the writer of the article didn't tell you half.  Every time I hear a story about this class that amazes me, I find out later that the whole story is even more amazing.  I do not know how this group became this way but if we could find out why, this country would have a golden future.  Great work George and thanks Tooey for giving him the freedom to get it done.  (And the support)

For those who had Mrs. Singer for P.E. at Jefferson, her obituary appeared in today's paper. She was 100 years old.

NEXT LUNCHEON: The 2nd Monday is fast approaching!! We will meet at the Daily Grind, 1pm, Monday, March 14,  4360 Cutler Ave NE. Their website is https://dailygrindabq.net/.  You can find their menus with mouth-watering pictures so come prepared!  Or they have good coffee and desserts if you only need a midday pick-me-up by that time.  They are located between Indian School and Menaul west of Washington NE, next to Calipers, (1st left turn on Cutler).  If the weather is warm again, we will probably eat outside in their colorful patio.  PLEASE RSVP by Sunday so I can arrange for a seating area.
