Scotty was reported missing in action over Laos in Dec 1968. He was flying as a navigator in a C-123 that apparently had a mid air with a B-57.
He was a first lieutenant in 1968. The memorial at the Air Force Academy cemetry shows him as a major so he was likely promoted while still carried as "missing".
I never really knew Scotty, but I do remember his demonstration of the high hurdles in the Highland gym at an assembly. I had never seen such grace and athleticism, except on televised reports from the Olympics.
The only name I knew on the VietNam wall in Wshington, DC. Always go by it when in Washington and look at Scotty's name. So much potential taken so young.

I didn't know. Scotty taught me the high hurdles. A good coach and a great guy
