I agree with Steve Komadina about trying earlier times for our lunches.  The issue with 1:00 is that this is just a start time.  By the time drink orders are taken, food orders are placed, and food served for about 25 folks, there have been lunches where I didn't get anything to eat until 2:00 or after.  It's hard to call that a lunch.  We should try an earlier time and just see if there are issues that make this harder.  We might be surprised in a good way.

I currently plan to attend the lunch on Monday but can't find the text that gives the location??

I believe the reasoning for having the lunches at 1 PM instead of 11 or noon is that we avoid the working lunch crowds and we can stay as long as we want to visit with each other.  It might be harder to find places that could accommodate us at the regular lunchtime and we might be encouraged to not linger too long if they have people waiting for tables.  Pros and cons for sure between earlier and later.

Any trip south to see birds and eat green chile cheese burgers is fine with me. Although a train trip to Santa Fe for a chile lunch was at my suggestion I will still be in Palm Springs until Friday. Sorry I will miss my chile fix,

Just a reminder that it is a buffet, so you pay as you come in and make sure you ask for senior discount.  About $7.50 includes  the soup, salad bar and pizza all you can eat.  Drinks are extra.  We will have tables reserved in the big sunny room on the South side of building.  Look forward to seeing you.  On the right about 1/4 mile north of the Post Office, just South of the Village offices/ Senior Center and Wells Fargo Bank.  They shut down the buffet at 2:00 but you can come early if you think your hollow leg will need more than an hour of buffet to fill.

Thank you, Steve, for the extra details!  I am looking forward to meeting there!  While some have been debating the best times to meet, please don't forget to RSVP.

Lunch in Santa Fe is this week.  Looks like it will be the perfect size for easy conversation!

I will chime in on the preferred lunch times. I like having a whole Monday morning without preparing for the next event.  Additionally, I already have a weekly Monday meeting.  So, obviously I vote to keep this designated as an afternoon (after 12:00) event.  So, since this is for birthdays, i wonder if some can come just for cake and ice cream, others for a more savory indulgence. But COME!  The fun is in the gathering!

For most folks I guess Monday's work best especially for those of you that live out of town. 1:00 is a good time to avoid the lunch crowds at most venues. For me I don't have a preference but as all have noticed, I hope, I have not been attending on Mondays due to my golf schedule. I truly miss seeing all of you but understand we can not always accommodate everyone. Enjoy November's lunch I will miss you all.

Looking forward to Monday at 1 PM.  Ate there last night and food was great.  Just took a couple of pictures to get you in the mood.  Patio was pretty empty at 8 pm due to low temps outside.

Frosty and I met the train at Tomasita's and discovered no one from our gang arrived so we enjoyed a lovely lunch with Cheryl Fossum and Mary Ellen Burns. It was great to catch up with the 2 of them and I hope more folks will decide to participate if the opportunity arises again.

I plan on being at lunch tomorrow in Corrales.  Great place to have lunch in early November.  Corrales has so many fall leaves and it such a pleasant drive through Corrales.  The price is right and having it as a buffet will mean we will not have a long delay getting something to eat.  Looking forward to seeing everyone and it will be nice to have Steve K there.

Well I am sorry to report no one showed up for the birthday lunch today.  My wife and I enjoyed talking , but I guess it was too far out of town for eveyone.  I appologize for suggesting a place so far and hope December will be a better month.  I will try to make it since I didn't see anyone today.  Sorry Marty for picking such a loser place for the November lunch.  Please forgive me.

Steve

Steve, don't feel sorry, Kati and I were very interested in going to Corrales for lunch. Unfortunately we are in AZ now and although we sometimes drive down from Durango or up from Socorro, we often spend time with the Budaghers in Corrales just so we can attend the birthday lunches. We loved the pictures (very Corrales), the prices and don't really care about the time as long as we can share a meal with HHS quality people. It's the company, not the food. Maybe next time we are in the area we can have lunch. I'm sure John and Sandi Budagher would love to join us (We attended John's 55th Valley Viking reunion, they were very hospitable. No fights in the parking lot ;) ) . We are thinking early February.?.

Karen, your salute was so appreciated!  Some of us have more painfully proud memories, but when any of us  pause in tribute, we might become more caring and sacrificing people in response.

Oh, Steve!  We really did miss you. All 20 of us!  Those senior moments!  How lovely that you and Penny can share them simultaneously! Haha!  (I will admit that three of us traded stories of getting lost or detoured on the way.  My personal favorite was Sue Suknot admitting she had to reroute when she recognized Sandia Pueblo!)

This was a day for S names: 2 Steve's--Brooks and Komadina (yes, he really was there!). 2 Sandy's-- Sandy Stewart Smallwood and Sandy Bryan. And 5 Susan/Sue/Susie's--Susan Myers Pucket, Susan Thompson, and Susan Petty (Maurine Petty Dickey), Sue Suknot, and Susie Strong Neuschwanger.  What a grand surprise to see Maurine who was able to work us in before heading back to Dallas! And she said she will try to attend more  lunches in the future!  Yea!

Pam Richardson Williams and husband Ron were able to join us again, as well as Gloria Ruiz Santana and husband Joe.  Penny Komadina made our third couple complete.  George Boyden said Tooey was recovering from knee replacement surgery last week, but I guess he got her fed and comfortable before he came!  Andy Paquet, Bonnie Kruger Kelly, Neal Kloepfer, Betty Myers Schaefer, and I rounded out the group.

It is always fun to eat in new surroundings, and the food and the company were very good. If you December birthday folk have a suggestion for next month, let me know pretty soon so we can get the word out. You can Private Message me on my Classmate Profile to the left of this page.  I would love to have a wintry, Christmas-y setting....can it possibly be that close?!   Good grief, Charlie Brown!  Let's have Thanksgiving first!  A very thanks-filled holiday to all!

NEWS FLASH Next Monday, Dec. 9 at 1:00, the December birthday luncheon will be held at Monroe's Restaurant on 6051 Osuna Rd NE east of San Mateo and very near Arroyo del Oso Golf Course.  I recommend going to their website (monroeschile.com) to whet your appetite!  RSVP here as always so I can reserve enough space on Monday morning.
